A little help with the pedalling
A tandem rail bike has two pedalling seats and room for a third person as a passenger. Choose a standard rail bike or an electrically assisted model.
Flekkefjordbanen also has options for child seats and wheelchairs. If you need an adaptation, discuss the arrangement with the operator before booking.

Stop at the water tower
The old railway alternates between cuttings, tunnels and open stretches beside the fjord. With 17 tunnels along the line, both the view and the light keep changing.
At Flikkeid's water tower, there are tables, benches and a toilet. Bring a packed lunch and drinks, and give your legs a break.
Before you take your seat
Meet at Flekkefjord bus station, the former railway station. Allow around 3½ hours for the activity itself, plus travel from Egenes and check-in time.
Helmets must be worn. Bring a powerful torch and a jacket for the cool tunnels.
Choose your date and rail-bike type in Flekkefjordbanen's booking system. Departures vary with the season.
Stay in town a little longer
A meal in the centre or a stroll through Hollenderbyen can round off the day. The town walk also makes an alternative when no rail-bike departure suits your plans.
Back to Selura
Return to the lake and a quieter evening at Egenes. Stay a few days to leave time for the railway, the beaches and another outing along the coast.
