Unpack once

A week with Egenes as your base

Four suggested outings, two open days and seven nights in one place. Explore Flekkefjord, Hidra, Jøssingfjord and the railway, with time for Selura in between.

Your week at a glance

Beach days between the outings

Seven nights give you six full days between arrival and departure. Four have a suggested trip; two stay open for life by the lake or a return to somewhere you want to see more of. Swap the days around to suit the weather, museum hours and rail-bike departures.

This itinerary assumes you have a car. Book a rail-bike departure and any timed visits first, then fit the open days around them. Nothing requires you to follow this order.

Arrival day

Arrive and unpack

Settle into your camping or tent pitch, cabin or apartment. The first evening is simply for arriving.

First full day

Get to know Flekkefjord

Hollenderbyen has white wooden houses, narrow streets and Flekkefjord Museum. Street art appears among the older buildings. Continue through the town centre, stopping for a meal or heading to Grønnes for a swim in the sea.

Second full day

Take the ferry to Hidra

Cross to Hidra and start among the white houses around Kirkehamn harbour. From Hågåsen, you can look over Kirkehamn and out to sea, with remains of the coastal fort nearby. Choose Rasvåg for more harbour history, narrow lanes and the Fedrenes Minne museum.

Third full day

Swimming and campsite life by Selura

Spend a day where you are staying. Swim from one of the sandy beaches, challenge each other at mini golf or take a pedalo onto Selura. Two playgrounds give children places to meet between meals.

Fourth full day

Visit the houses at Helleren in Jøssingfjord

Old houses stand beneath Helleren's rock overhang, surrounded by the steep sides of Jøssingfjord. View them from outside. Use the car park at Jøssingfjord Vitenmuseum, which tells the stories of rocks, people and industry when it is open.

Fifth full day

A rail-bike ride when the railway is running

Pedal a rail bike through tunnels and open scenery on the old Flekkefjord railway. The operator allows about 3½ hours for the activity, plus travel and check-in time. Check departures and participant requirements before choosing the day.

Rail biking is seasonal. If no departure suits, spend another day in Flekkefjord or stay at Egenes instead.

Sixth full day

One more visit before you leave

Somewhere you wanted to revisit, or another whole day by Selura: leave the last full day open until you know the area. A walk in the hills could round off the week, too.

Swap a day without packing up

For more of the coast, replace an outing with Lista or Lindesnes. Dyreparken is a longer full-day option. Choose what interests you and keep a few days without a long drive.

On a touring holiday, Preikestolen fits better before or after your week here. The overview map shows why: there is a substantial drive as well as the mountain hike itself.

A shorter break?

Three nights, two full days

Our shorter itinerary combines a day in Flekkefjord with a day on Hidra. Jøssingfjord is the alternative to the island trip.

Somewhere to come back to

Stay a week by Selura

Spend seven nights at Egenes, with time for outings and days beside Selura. Choose a cabin or apartment, or bring your motorhome, caravan or tent.

Book accommodation with Egenes Camping. Any activity tickets and guided visits are booked and paid for separately with the operators.
