Go exploring. Come back to Selura.

Some days call for a stroll around Flekkefjord. Others might take you by ferry, along the coast or into the mountains. Leave room in the day for the stops that catch your eye.

1 · Flekkefjord · about 10 minutes by car

Wooden houses, street art and a ride on the rails

History is written into the houses of Hollenderbyen; street art appears around the next corner. Walk through Flekkefjord, visit a museum and stop for something to eat. On Flekkefjordbanen, you can swap the streets for a rail bike and pedal beside the water and through tunnels.

Prefer to leave the car here? The town guide also shows the walking and cycling connection from Egenes.

2 · Hidra · via Kvellandstrand

Across the water to Hidra

The ferry marks the start of an island day. Walk among the waterside buildings in Kirkehamn, climb to Hågåsen or continue to Rasvåg. These two small harbours invite a slower pace than the main road.

Allow about 20 minutes from Egenes to Kvellandstrand. The ferry crossing and any waiting time are extra; find departures in the Hidra guide.

3 · Jøssingfjord · about 40 minutes by car

Houses sheltered by a mountain

Two small houses stand beneath the vast rock overhang at Helleren. Here in Jøssingfjord, the link between people and landscape is easy to see. Add Jøssingfjord Vitenmuseum when it is open, and give the geology a human story.

Sogndalstrand lies further west along the coast. Combine the two if you want a full day out.

4 · Sogndalstrand · about 55 minutes by car

A coastal town worth taking slowly

At Sogndalstrand, the river meets the sea between old wooden houses and waterfront storehouses. This former trading settlement retains buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. Walk along the river mouth, look closely at the houses and spend a little time by the water before heading back.

5 · Lista lighthouse · about 45–50 minutes by car

The open coast at Lista

At Lista, the land flattens towards the sea. The lighthouse, birdlife and houses of Borhaug make a change from the steep hillsides around Selura. Bring a jacket and leave time to be outside.

Lista lighthouse has a visitor centre and exhibitions. Maintenance of the tower has been announced; check current access and opening hours with the lighthouse.

6 · Lindesnes lighthouse · about 1 hour 10 minutes by car

Where the lighthouse faces the sea

At Lindesnes, bare coastal rock opens out towards the sea. Walk between the lighthouse buildings, look out over the water and step into stories of the coast at the museum. Allow time for the headland as well as the exhibitions.

The drive from Egenes takes about 1 hour 10 minutes each way. Plan your visit around the lighthouse's opening hours.

7 · Kristiansand · a longer day trip

Give Dyreparken a full day

If Dyreparken is high on the children's holiday list, set aside a day during your stay at Egenes. Drive east towards Kristiansand and check the park's programme and tickets for your chosen date.

Allow about 1 hour 45 minutes of driving each way, on top of your visit. If several days at Dyreparken are the main purpose of your trip, consider placing them before or after your stay at Egenes.

8 · Preikestolen · before or after Egenes

Fit Preikestolen into a longer journey

The view over Lysefjord draws many travellers west. From Egenes, the drive to the trailhead via Ryfast takes about three hours. Then comes an eight-kilometre return hike, with several hours on mountain terrain.

That makes a long day: around six hours of driving as well as the walk. On a touring holiday, Preikestolen fits well before or after your days at Selura. If you go there and back from Egenes, let the weather, daylight and your walking experience determine the plan.

9 · Sirdal · about 1 hour 35 minutes by car

Follow the valley to Sirdal

Head north to Tjørhom, where the mountains replace the coastal landscape. Summer at Sirdal Fjellpark brings climbing among the trees, mountain cart rides down the slopes and disc golf. Choose an activity that suits your group and give it time.

Hulderheimen is about 1 hour 35 minutes by car from Egenes. Check the park's opening hours and height and age requirements before choosing an activity.

10 · Kjerag · a long mountain day

A mountain day at Kjerag

Kjeragbolten, wedged between cliffs above Lysefjord, is one of the major mountain destinations north of Egenes. Drive through Sirdal to Øygardstøl, about 2 hours 15 minutes each way. A demanding eleven-kilometre return hike starts here.

Allow six to eight hours for the hike, in addition to driving. Steep, exposed sections call for mountain experience, proper equipment and suitable weather. The road to the trailhead closes in winter; check road and hiking conditions before setting off. On a touring holiday, consider putting this mountain day before or after your stay by Selura.

A long weekend or a few days away

Three nights, two different days

Start with an evening by Selura. Spend one full day in Flekkefjord and the other on Hidra, or choose Jøssingfjord instead. Leave your bags at Egenes and get to know more than the road through town.

Stay longer in one place

A week leaves room between the trips

Four days out and two without a fixed plan. A town day, an island day, a drive along the coast, then time for swimming, mini golf or a walk from Egenes. Choose the order as you go.

Egenes as a stop on a touring holiday

West along the coast or north into the mountains

Travelling west, you could start with Kristiansand and Dyreparken, stay a few nights at Egenes, then continue along the coast towards Stavanger and Preikestolen. An inland route takes you through Sirdal towards Kjerag when the road is open. Coming the other way, Selura can be the pause after the mountain hike.

A touring holiday need not mean new accommodation every night. Stay here for a few nights, choose a couple of day trips and leave the rest for the onward journey.

The same pitch when you return

Your reserved motorhome pitch remains yours throughout your booked stay, including while you are out for the day. You return to the same spot.

In a cabin or apartment, leave your bags while you head out. And some days, the beach and a coffee beside Selura may be all you had in mind.
